The menu was pasted in an old book---so charming!
Our spot overlooking the courtyard.
A perfect cuppa.

Afternoon Tea at the Boston Public Library
(offered Wednesday through Friday afternoons, as of June 2015)
Ambiance - Calm and quiet, an oasis in the busy chaos of the renovations in the rest of the library.
Waitstaff - Attentive.
Savory - I love their variety of savory options, it's a nice counterbalance to the sweet.
Sweet -The lemon poppyseed was a bit overbaked this time (though it hasn't been in the past). The macarons were particularly delicious.
Scones, clotted cream, and jam -Very tasty, and while the adorable jars the jams are served in are a bit clunky, they are too charming not to love.
Tea quality - Nicely done. Tea does not arrive fully steeped, so there is the chance of over-steeping, but they are very good at adding more hot water for a second or third steep.
Cost - $35 per person
Overall - A lovely way to spend an afternoon. If you're planning to have tea with someone that is town for a visit, it's a bonus since you're right in the midst of one of the landmarks of Boston. The library is gorgeous, and absolutely worth a wander. If you are normally unable to go during the week, check back for their holiday tea specials---some years they do offer tea every day of the week!
